Miliutufaga was the daughter of Simoumea Tuatagaloa Mataumu Leota and Mary Allen. Mary’s father, Benjamin Allen, was an American blacksmith and whaler, who came to Falealili on a whaling ship in the 1840s. Mary’s mother, Eliza Bourne, was the daughter of an English father, James Bourne, and of a Samoan mother, Mua Mata’utia.

Rose’s maternal grandfather was Daniel Joseph Vuletich (the son of Joseph/Josip Vuletich/Vuletić and Filomena Anastazija Musanić). Daniel was born in Dargaville, Kaipara District, Northland, New Zealand, to parents from Općina Vrgorac, Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. Rose’s great-grandfather Joseph was the son of Mate/Matteo Vuletić and Marija Katić. Filomena was the daughter of Ljubomir Musanić and Marija Santica.

Rose’s maternal grandmother is Jessie Scott (the daughter of Thomas Torrance/Torrence Scott and Catherine Denholm Green). Thomas was the son of Thomas Torrance Scott and Agnes Lockhart, from Lanarkshire, Scotland. Catherine was also the daughter of Scottish parents, George Green, from Lanarkshire, and Margaret Ann Samuel Gray, from Selkirkshire.
